i am, unfortunately, autistic enough about desktop environments and design that when i see 00s Computer Aesthetic things that combine the iMac G3 with Windows XP/Vista icons, i cry a little bit on the inside. no... no...! not the bliss wallpaper on a G3...!
@platinumtulip Ok, now I am a bit curious idk if you ever mentioned it before but what is your favourite desktop environment (of any era/operating system)?
@friendly_neighbourhood_bat ooh, good question!!
to use in the modern day: KDE's customizability is still unmatched to me. i really appreciate that and my current KDE setup makes me soooo happy to use.
aesthetically: Mac OS 8/9's Platinum interface, without a doubt. i think it is so elegant; the fonts, the icons, the menus! i modeled my neocities after it for a reason haha. however, using it in the modern day does make me miss a lot of modern-day conveniences lol. (god i do not miss navigating folders and opening a bunch of windows in the process.)
to use back in the day: i have a lot of nostalgia for OS X 10.5/10.6 and i would love to use it again someday to see how i feel about it now
@platinumtulip Macos 9 looks really nice, I might try it in an emulator at some point. I personally love how IRIX looks, especially more colorful themes. And thank you so much for the answer!
@friendly_neighbourhood_bat oh yeah IRIX is awesome too!! good choice... if you ever want to play around with OS 9 at some point, https://infinitemac.org/ is a fun way to do that w/o having to set up QEMU
@platinumtulip Thank you! The one issue I had playing aroud with irix is that it is a bit of a pain in the ass to emulate, I will definitley check out infinitemacs. Thank you so much!
@friendly_neighbourhood_bat @platinumtulip 10.6 was sooo nice.
