    2/ What is our government doing? This project defies common sense - this is corporate welfare on a surreal scale, giving a gift to an industry making $90 billion in excess profits this year, and which still refuses to pay for its own infrastructure. It makes a mockery of the duty to consult First Nations, guaranteed under our constitution. You can’t approve a project and then engage in consultation: that is just a pipeline to the courts.

    3/ And for Canadians across this land, it is a kick in the teeth to call this climate bomb of a project “in the national interest”. It is in Big Oil’s interest for sure. But it doesn’t do a damn thing for people struggling with the cost of food and housing, increased costs from privatized healthcare, and of course the daily anxiety of climate breakdown.

    4/ The rest of the world is racing ahead on renewable energy, leaving Canada behind. Instead of spending at least $50 billion of public money on fueling more climate chaos, Canadians deserve a government that invests in building the green economy of tomorrow – creating good jobs, lowering costs, and protecting our future.

    @avilewis i disagree. In the international level rogue countries leverage power since they can provide oil and gas, which Canada needs to do

    @avilewis I have often framed recent Canadian politics as a measurably more sane than the US equivalent. But this sucks.

    American or Canadian, all of us on the west coast share this reality.

    @avilewis The only excuse anyone has given me for this project is that Canada needs the wealth that selling our oil gives us, in order to invest in green policies.

    But there's never an answer a pipeline for oil is the investment of choice, instead of things that create jobs & build on our skills here. Many experts say that Canada has the education & expertise to get into sectors like high tech manufacturing.

    Things where the investment = jobs & furthering military & climate objectives.

    @avilewis Instead we choose to throw money at one of the wealthiest industries that is purely extractive with minimal jobs.

    I'm sure AI data centres are next on this game plan: $100 million dollar investment for a huge building that brings like 7 permanent jobs, raises electricity costs & guzzles water. But it's an "investment" for Canada right? Right??
