People keep talking about “solarpunk”, “walkaway” and similar ideas, but as a person who really needs an institutional context I don’t really see the hope, because those theories lack solutions for important collective problems, like building shared ideas and preventing violence and hostile takeover.

@promovicz I don't follow. If I understand what you're asking for, requiring that seems like the difference between solarpunk and a weird flavor of cottagecore.
@dalias Then don’t. I just made the experience - also among progressives, for many years - that neither groups nor society actually function without some degree of structure. Most people have spent their entire lives in institutions, and they won’t magically learn to function without them.
@promovicz Yeah. Solarpunk is supposed to be deeply aware of that and envisioning such structure. It's painful to me when folks usurp the name for a sort of facade/aesthetic with no substance and then "solarpunk" gets blamed for their clownery.
@dalias for me, the problems are that these “grassroots” models don’t have much surface to stick to, don’t answer questions about privilege and inclusivity, and leave me standing in the dust as far as actual “organization” is concerned. efforts like that don’t usually treat outsiders very well. people forget that when you have you own life model, *everyone else* is an outsider…
@promovicz for building shared idea, french gov gave us a solution by accident. They offered a bit more than a hundred of random people the opportunity to gather and exchange with expert on many topics to elaborate "solutions" for the climate. This resulted in like the most ambitious set of proposition, the kind green party don't even get close, with a high level of consensus. Most already formatted as law proposal.
then the neoliberal government ignored that.
@gkrnours hehe. pretty similar to our hacker/netpolitics experience here in Germany, where we often share opinions with experts, and even those from conservative parties - but politicians ignore all of it. they just don’t listen, and act on their own interest. typical “narc boss” issues if you ask me…
@promovicz the interesting/sad part here was that it was random people from a large variety of background and it was the government that set it up, providing compensation for missed work and a place for debat if I remember correctly. So there could be no accusation of them being far-left dreamer.
I would like a political party build around setting up that kind of thing, forming charismatic people to win election and technical people to implement it
