    @aparrish @emenel @scr Learning how to code and how computer systems/hardware works is a wonderful way to expand your thinking and understanding of the world. It challenges you to solve problems in constrained systems and can be lots of fun too. I learned a lot of programming concepts with robot battle programming games, video games, and working with resource limitations. Computer science is more philosophy of thinking, with applied skills/craft as a second thing (in my opinion)

    @Psy_Fer_ @aparrish @emenel @scr I agree here. To me it's a straightforward extension of the scientific method, coming from Western Europe's "Age of Enlightenment", where pure logic and reason rose above a prevailing worldview of dogmatic, unprove-able, unverifiable, religious superstitious horse apples. Pure Computer Science stands apart from politics: it's a totally abstract world that even forgets humans exist, exploring what the computer itself can do in a world of pure logic and reason, divorced from the world (too much so, one might argue).

    People who can't think in any other way, than ideologically, can't help themselves but to project politics onto this.

    @d1 @aparrish @emenel @scr ahh, that's not really what I was saying. Once you can think like a computer scientist, and you want to solve problems in resource constrained environments, political issues like "maybe we should feed kids that are poor?" Become obvious as are the various methods to do it. Nothing is divorced of politics, everything is political.

    @Psy_Fer_ @aparrish @emenel @scr I say the poor kids *deserve* to be fed, and it's a highly praiseworthy undertaking to figure out how to feed them, but stop short of stipulating they are entitled to it, and it's the automatic and compulsory job of every computer scientist to do it, because politics automatically demands it, and has dominion and authority over the computer scientists

    Having said this, ethical behavior from Computer Scientists is fair to demand and expect, stopping short of acting like their boss, patronizing them
