@mitch @pluralistic every other day I check the news and have to stop because yet another plot point from Rainbows End manifested in reality (the last one was the company destroying books to use their contents to train models). When I first read it I didn't see myself ever becoming the old man lugging around an ancient laptop because it's the last computer that's not user-hostile and controlled by corporations via embedded cryptographic processors, but now I'm not so sure anymore
