    Today I gave someone my canvas shopping bag after she saw it and immediatly went on a thing about how her first job was there (it's a Borders bag) and that it was a total nostalgia trip to see the bag. I asked if it would make her very happy to have it and she said yes, so I unloaded my stuff into one of my cheaper secondary bags so she could have the Borders one. It's not exactly fancy (plain canvas, lining slightly chipped form my using it pretty much weekly for groceries over the past 2-3 years) and I got it for free from my buy nothing group, but she was so thrilled about it.

    Do good thing for people! Make them happy!

    Anyone else do a small kindness that made someone else happy recently? Doesn't matter how small.

    @SRLevine not terribly recent, but similar. when i darken the doors of a theme park my torso is covered in commemorative pins, conceptually similar to pokémon but you wear them. some people take books filled with the things and trade, but i assume grownups are crooked and won't trade.

    except kids. i'll trade with kids. one girl ran up and was excited about all the pins, so i knelt down to give a look, and she pointed at… a pin whose loss would break a set that had been difficult to amass. but it's not like i'm going to sell the set or anything. i handed it to her with a smile, and she skipped off with the parents in tow.

    @SRLevine At McDonald's a few months ago, a haggard-looking couple stood at the counter. They were $2 short on the food they had ordered. So they wouldn't have to give anything back, I slipped them the $2.

    I generally don't mention these things, but you asked.

    The other week in the supermarket, I saw a person nearby struggling to reach a product far back on an upper shelf. I asked if I could help them reach it (I’m kinda taller). They were so appreciative, and it made me feel useful on a day when I was feeling invisible in the world. It helped both of us.

    @SRLevine we saw a young woman on Friday night that, about 6 months ago, I gave my hat to. She saw it at the time and commented about how much she liked it (it was a hat from my place of work that said "Matter" across the front, because that's our current marketing campaign), and I asked her if she wanted it. She said yes, so I gave it to her.

    I've posted about this before, but when I run, I run along the Charles River. And I see lots of groups of people taking pictures of each other in front of the Boston skyline, or MIT, or Harvard. Mom takes Dad's pic with the kid, then Dad takes Mom's pic with the kid, or Grandma takes Mom and Dad with the kids, etc. And I stop and say, "Do you want one all together?" It's such a tiny thing for me but seems to make people disproportionately happy.

    @SRLevine I was recently able to give a Tribal elder something that is very valued in ceremony, but also extremely difficult to source ethically

    similar situation: didn't cost me anything but had a big impact for her
