(She was actually ok!) But of course, my first thought was, Ok, I can email her, but she won't get that until she returns to her flat and can use her computer. How long do I wait before getting a wellness check on her? Who do I know in London (obs. if needed would send a Mastodon Hail Mary-love you all!)? Is she even now being bundled onto a plane for Nefarious Purposes? Kudos to the police officer who gave me his personal number and email.
The child did well too! Figured out the phone was lost quickly, retraced steps, saw the police staging area nearby, asked if it had been turned it and retrieved it. Then texted me that all was well.
SO, only a short term mild panic, more a review of safety procedures and possible scenarios if needed.
Anyone who thinks your job and worries are done when kids hit "adulthood" is dreaming.
Thank you to the good person of London who found the phone and turned it in to the police. Thanks to the police for going the extra mile to find the phone owner and return it. Not at all sure that would happen in a major US city, but I hope so.

@IcooIey I would rather deal with parenting a tantruming 2 year old with a full diaper than parent an adult. Nobody tells how hard it is to be a parent to grown children.
