Rushing the preparation for a country’s anniversary is definitely a bad idea.
Even if this is the first time such a rush happens in the US, it's not the first time in the world (and unlikely the last).

In 1981, for example, the construction of a large monument in the central part of the capital was rushed for the Bulgaria 1300 celebration.
It had to be dismantled several years ago, not only because it was ugly, but also because it was falling apart.
