Aug 1, 2026, 3:14 AMI'm probably not breaking new ground here, but LLMs have made it very clear to me that there are broadly two ways that people approach performing a task - people who want the task done well, and people who want the status of having done the task.
LLMs are really appealing to that second group, because it lets you get the status of being a book-writer or app-publisher or whatever without all that tedious writing or programming.
@Fruan Very true. It may not be new ground, but it is ground worth treading all the same. As someone who has to use one for everything at work, the "speed to market" is definitely the status excuse of the two.
Whenever starting a project I always open with "do you want it done well or fast?" Invariably the corpos land on fast, invariably after waffling around about "why can't AI do both?"

@Fruan Those who want the victory, and who might also enjoy a trophy to commemorate it, vs those fixated on the trophy, and who couldn't care less about the victory.
@Fruan @feisty_lemming Or maybe even just people who want to do it themselves and get the benefits of learning and achieving something versus the people who can't be bothered to put in the effort or reap the rewards of doing it themselves.
@Fruan Group A is John Major - wanted to be Prime Minister because he relished the task and (whatever one thinks of his policies), dug his teeth into it and worked hard. Group B is Boris Johnson - never wanted to *be* Prime Minister but really wanted to *have been* Prime Minister.
@Fruan The part that I find weird is the people who want the status of having done the task somehow...don't face any consequences if the task isn't done well?
