Jul 23, 2026, 12:08 PMHi! I’m new here. I’ve tried Mastodon a couple times but maybe third time’s the charm! I have become increasingly disillusioned by mainstream social media and I’m searching for ways to connect with other people outside of an algorithm.
I teach high school English and I read a lot. Currently at book 92 of a read around the world project. I was a teen in the 90s and still trying to keep my grunge phase alive. I love art and film too.

@imaginaryuncle I certainly do in this day & age of many reasons to need good literacy, esp in media/journalism. Though, I admit, as a teen in High School, I never appreciated it. Hindsight, & all that.

The 90s was by twenties. I was stoned for most of it and have industrial deafness from the bands I saw.

@NickSchwanck @rustyferris @imaginaryuncle just realized this year how bad my hearing is now. Same reason - concerts and playing in bands, mostly in the 90s but also beyond. Tinnitus is peculiar and a bit shitty.
@ianto_jones @rustyferris @imaginaryuncle I get an annual hearing test through work. They say I have tinnitus in high frequencies. Doesn't affect me much. Still glad I saw the bands I've seen. Totally worth it.

@imaginaryuncle Ooooh, the Shining is a good choice! I really like that one, among other Kubrick films.
Personally my favourite film is Stalker, I find it unbelivably interesting in concept and execution. Tarkovsky's other films are excellent too.

my favorite horror film is The Haunting (1963) [I don't like inferior remakes], based on the Shirley Jackson book: The Haunting of Hill House (love Shirley Jackson)
