Anyone else in #Berlin having hassles with over-the-top aggressive door-to-door fiber optic salesmen from Telekom? They come here every other week and we end up slamming the door in their faces every time because they just won't accept "no thanks". It almost makes me wonder if there's some kind of scam involved.
@praxeology I haven’t had the experience yet but I did read about this story, and it seems that would indeed be a scam…
Jun 15, 2026, 2:59 PM@praxeology We also had some salesmen in our house in #berlin, trying to sell us a #glasfaseranschluss, telling us that DSL will be shut down soon. However, our landlord informed everyone in the building that this is a Scam.
According to the #tagesschau (https://www.tagesschau.de/wirtschaft/verbraucher/glasfaser-haustuere-100.html) this seems to happen quite frequently.

@tucs @praxeology yep, this is why I will never use Telekom. They authorise these third-party goons who knock on your door and say things like "a disruption is coming for your internet" (i.e. fibre is available) to make it sound like your connection is going to be disrupted.
@tucs Thanks! These two articles give me a good overview of exactly what is going on. Slightly (but not extremely) shocking that this seems to be their standard practice. I will have to warn my neighbors.
Jun 18, 2026, 9:00 PM@tucs @praxeology I also had someone from Telekom tell me that DSL was going to be disabled. I didn't trust this at all and called my DSL provider 1&1 who said that was a complete lie, and that they would of course inform me long in advance of any change in service.
