If you work in tech, it’s been explicitly stated by multiple CEOs that their goal is to replace employees with AI agents.

If you’re talented (or lucky) enough you will be one of those left behind to supervise these agents.

The question is what does career planning look like in this world? Do you plot an exit or get really good at managing a fleet of Claude and OpenClaw agents?

@carnage4life call me Luddite but I think it's becoming more and more clear to more and more stakeholders that once the "magic" wears off, AI is more expensive for worse output than humans. I don't expect that to change in the near term.

This has been implicitly stated by the same CEOs regularly.

@carnage4life "Fire all the people who know how things work and replace them with agents rented to you by your competitors who have no loyalty and can be broken, memory-wiped, or taken away at any time for any reason" just feels like a losing proposition in the long run.

@carnage4life @mattwillis well some lesser people may lose a way to make a living, but it’s a sacrifice they are willing to make.

If there’s a class of people who are really into class consciousness it’s the C suite class. They all know they’ll all be taking care of each other.

@carnage4life I dunno, every factor of production has a cost. Human capital is just more annoying to deal with because of the "human" part

@carnage4life well. Tech is more of what people do in silicon valley. I know it is hard to believe, but one can have a good career in tech outside the narrow view of the tech bubble and still make a decent living. One people let go of the 1mm dollar stock options, is fine.

@carnage4life it's a zero sum game. If you're staying to manage all the agents, it will be constant firefighting. If you're good you will find a way to automate most of it and then someone will lay you off because you are too expensive and someone offshore can do the remaining firifigthing

@mrt181 That seems to be the treadmill we’re all on. If you’re good then you’ll automate part of the work which is then a signal for management to lay you or your coworkers off given “efficiencies” from AI.

@carnage4life I'm in this position, and I'm trying to save as much as I can for an exit. Babysitting multiple Claude agents would be a special kind of hell. That's not a career. And then there's the fact that there is no way to ethically use this technology.

@carnage4life I have a service at work that might now be about 80% written by Claude.

It's certainly fine but I do feel the mental effort of reviewing all that code vs writing is higher.

So, while I might have grepped how to do it, I feel like retiring early more than I ever have before.

    @carnage4life

Stop promoting this gloom snd doom. The number of those CEOs is tiny in comparison to the number of workers in tech and all the others work types combined. Same fir the politicians, army and police.

I guess this idiots neve read what happened to Marie Antoinette, but they should.

Humans can suddenly become violent survivors when yo menace their feeding, specialy for them and their childrean.

Start putting fear on their hearts.
Or it will be a blood bath.

For the more civilized outcome, start voting the logical and fringe options that doesn't promise the Moon and Mars, and sells you smoke.. If you can plainly see a candidate is a ruch idiot, do not vote for him.
