    There is no valid reason for LLM bots to participate in social media, not one

    Social media is meant for social humans and not for robots that follow a script

    With their presence they only dilute the real human content, they take up space and resources meant for humans, it takes a lot of time removing them, they do not contribute anything useful to the system

    Bots are not humans, don’t give them the space, rights or attention. Hammer them :banhammer:

    @stux I can see validity to bots that do things like, say, post the latest XKCD, but yeah, most tend to do more harm than good and rarely seem to work out. (I noticed, for example, the alt text bots seem to have disappeared? That was theoretically a good usage, but I guess they just didn't work out.)

    @nazokiyoubinbou @Wolkensteine So that’s okay, not the ones I am talking about 😉

    I mean the actual ‘agents’ who act on their own and costs immense resources

    @stux @Wolkensteine Well, some use """AI""" mechanisms for non-agent things such as the alt text bots having been "vision" based. It wasn't a chat agent, it was just a tool for people who refused to put in alt text themselves because... ... ... Anyway, they don't.

    I mean, I'm against a lot of uses of such things, but helping people who legitimately have troubles with what's in media they can't see did count as a valid use to me, even if it was wrong sometimes. (Not knowing what was in it at all was even more wrong.)

    @nazokiyoubinbou @stux @Wolkensteine They could be more useful if:
    - those bots were integrated into Mastodon or other ActivityPub-enabled software in a way, that alt text would go into the appropriate field, not as a comment;
    - authors of images without alt would get a warning that alt text is AI-generated and encouraged to replace with their own and write it on the further posts.

    But given the culture of Mastodon and quality of AI-generated alts, it's probably better to require ALTs in rules of instance, and moderate posts which lack/
    people who neglect to write them.

    @nazokiyoubinbou But there is a difference between a ‘bot’ and LLM agent 😉

    I don’t have much issues with bots per se, depending on their tasks. But agents keep creating bullshit accounts for no reason’s whatsoever

    @stux Alright, I think I misunderstood your post to be saying there should be no bots of any kind. Yeah, we don't need "chat agents" on here.

    @stux largely why I left tw*tter. You see a post with 30k likes and all the replies are just bots and you wonder "why am I even here? Should I just let clankers socialise between each other?"

    In the game of Go (baduk) we've had the same problem for a while. Bots pretending to be human. There doesn't seem to be any good way to eliminate them all. For an open social media network where the rules aren't so strict I guess it's going to be an even harder problem.

    @stux
    Mark Zuckerberg is incapable of normal social interaction, so has no friends.
    He believes that this is true of everyone else, and that we are all clamoring for bots to to fill that black hole of loneliness that is his life.

    @stux I'm not even a big fan of the bots that cross post from X to Mastodon. On the one hand, it allows you to follow people that only post on X without having to use X... On the other hand, those people should just be posting on Mastodon.

    @stux They already got their own social network for bots, Moltbook, they can only be using human ones to try and exploit or fool humans.

    They do not belong here. Good work on banning them all.
