Entertainment Software Association, which mostly consists of game publishers, on a hearing said that Minecraft community servers are illegal
because they said further that "they are not in any way affiliated with Microsoft", it may seem clear that they mixed up "illegal" and "not associated" but that's how they plant their agenda in your mind, that mix up may very well be intentionalanyway, i'd suggest starting preserving server jars just in case, or maybe even hosting more servers, because corpos in US are more powerful now than ever
- tapafontapafon@isn.tapaf.onl6/29/2026HoloFed is aiming to be VRChat-like social VR platform, but with ActivityPub-based federation (like Mastodon) and FOSS.
The whole idea is instead of relying to central authority/server, rely instead to multiple servers (called Relay in this case), federating with each other. Moreover, direct connect/host option and local viewer allow HoloFed to function without Relay at all.
HoloFed itself is avaliable here, along with Relay server, and web version. PC(VR), Android standalone headsets (Quest 1 version showcased in video) and Web (local viewer only) versions are supported. However, it's in very alpha phase as the moment of writing.

- tapafontapafon@isn.tapaf.onl6/10/2026It's very hard to find balanced discussions or opinions on that tech too. Most of them are either pro-AI or anti-AI, no in-between.
Myself, I do find some use for Whisper, or separating voice from other sounds (like it was used in recent DOOR STUCK remake), or other niche non-gen-AI models, or even local LMs - basically, anything that involves working with existing content, not "creating" something new.
However, I don't like and use models for generating images, videos and music, nor like when AI stuff is being enforced in products, especially with mediocre quality and especially when EULA is being rewritten to force us to waive away ownership of our content so it can be used to train next model. Like pirated books, parsed websites without complying with licenses weren't enough.
I wish there was ethically trained LMs, but those are either unusable (K3LM), or violated licenses as well (OLMO). I wish there was a balanced solution, but right now it's sounds like all or nothing. - tapafontapafon@isn.tapaf.onl6/10/2026www.youtube.com/watch?v=WaHozsDn-ls
This video still didn't answer my questions about genAI, although it kinda reflect my current views about it.
TL;DR The tech itself isn't evil, the way it's implemented by Big Tech is evil. I should have done it earlier, but better now than never.
