I’ve been deeply reflecting on the Prairieland sentencing since it was announced yesterday. It’s weighing heavy on my heart. 💔

Imagine spending 30 years in prison for moving a box of zines. Literally. Meanwhile, Jan 6 *actual* domestic terrorists are all pardoned.

This whole idea of antifa being an “organization” or a “cell” is the epitome of fascist totalitarianism propaganda.

In his sentencing statement, Song said “what kind of people are not against fascism?” That’s the question we need to keep pushing. We need to force fascists who pretend they are otherwise to answer that question out in the open. Relentlessly.

Song’s mother said “he’s accepted full responsibility for what actually happened. But he will never accept responsibility for a lie — a government lie made to prosecute innocent people in order to get political persecutions.”

Fuck ICE. Fuck fascism. Fuck dictators. And fuck billionaires.

Sketchy writing that reads “fuck this, fuck him, fuck them.” The letters are artistically scratched out.

@markwyner I don't know the story and am confused: was he a shooter (i.e. he actually fired a weapon) at legitimate law enforcement, or was he simply "moving zines"?

Those are two vastly different things.

@ktneely they sure are. But I’m confused by your sealioning.

The guy simply “moving zines” got 30 years. The guy who allegedly shot a cop got 100. The others got 30–50 years.

Why did they all get convicted? For wearing bloc and simply being there. These judges were trying to make an example of them, not punish them for crimes committed.

Who gets those kinds of sentences? Certainly not ICE Nazis for murdering people in the streets. Certainly not Jan 6 aggressors.

All of this happened because a totalitarian fascist dictator decided antifa is an organization and anyone involved with them are domestic terrorists.

Next time read the story linked to in the post instead of gaslighting and sealioning.

@markwyner what is sealioning? I literally don't know that term. And I did read the linked article (quickly) and didn't see the bifurcation of different actors. I'm trying to understand and asking questions here.

If you don't like questions of clarification and immediately jump to assumptions of trying to "call you out" or whatever, maybe don't post. Idk. Sorry if that's a hot take, but I'm trying to understand the story and feel attacked by asking what I thought was a simple question.

@ktneely you are correct that my response was harsh. For that, I apologize.

What I won’t apologize for is calling folks out for tolerance of fascism or the police. There are no both sides and there is no neutral position.

While I’m not suggesting this was your intention, your choice of words is all-too familiar among people who attack folks like me about things like this.

Especially in how you softly describe a cop who is protecting kidnappers as “legitimate law enforcement.” This isn’t okay for me.

ICE and cops who protect them aren’t “legitimate” anything. They’re fascist, boot-licking terrorists.

Again, I apologize for jumping down your throat. But your questions/implications are answered in the article. And I’m tired of being sealioned and gaslit by people. Hence my defensivenes.

@ktneely @markwyner Sealioning is "just asking questions", like you're doing now. It's seen as a subtle form of trolling that consumes the energy of targets when you could very easily look up for yourself what happened. It's all over the news.

Benjamin Song, a firearms instructor and a United States Marine Corps veteran, was trying to stop Lieutenant Thomas Gross from pursuing and firing his gun into the back of a running, unarmed protester. Song himself was not shooting to kill.

    100 years.

@Taco_lad @ktneely Right. The sealion in this thread was pursuing a line of questioning that implied a criminal sentence longer than a human lifetime might be justified for shooting at a cop. They claimed they were being polite (sealions always do!) but were really trying to derail and reframe the debate. Mr. Song acted to prevent the murder of an innocent, unarmed civilian.

The murderers of Alex Pretti, Renee Good, Botham Jean, Manuel Teran, Atatiana Jefferson and Philando Castile walk free.
