Might be politely asking into the void but what's the etiquette for boosting vs favouriting on here?
Was favouriting like likes on twitter but do most people boost for discoverability cos there's no algorithm?
I just don't want the cool kids to think I'm weird or way too into someone's toots 😭

@bicebird Favs are a 1 on 1 communication with the person who posted, boosts are a communication with your followers, and only your followers. Have not had complaints about either since I've been here, and don't remember seeing any meta-discourse about fav'ing or boosting etiquette.

@inertiate @bicebird these actions had lost all meaning on X. My understanding is that favouriting is simply that - telling people you like their post. Boosting is sharing with your followers. I love the simplicity!

@bicebird It's simple. Boost if you think your followers should see it. Favourite if you want the author to know you saw it.
