Companies are *already* quietly hiring people to come in and clean up the digital asbestos that is "AI" slop, or re-hiring the same folk (who did the actual work) that managers and CEOs ditched with surpassing cruelty.

i'm still flabbergasted by people who think LLM-generated summaries (whether it's of web searches or source code or whatever) have any meaningful relationship to fact. personally i feel like i have never encountered an LLM-generated summary that seemed trustworthy and withstood an even moderately attentive reading. it's starting to make me feel like a space alien

And it’s yet another one of the things where now when I yell it, I have to specify that it’s something I’ve been telling students and companies alike since long before the release of GPT, because otherwise people assume it’s just a reaction to gen AI:

I think I've figured out why the incidence (and centrality) of assholes is so much higher on the right. What conservatives have proven to be most concerned with conserving is systems that run on trauma. Patriarchy. White supremacy. Oligarchy. None of these work without abuse. Without people excited about abuse. That is, assholes.

One of the things I liked about UPS was that when you had a delivery problem you could call and speak to somebody who a) understood that it was a problem, and b) could fix it.
That seems over. Their slow, clunky, and unreliable website now has a low-grade chatbot, and all the support people have been replaced by grotesquely over-polite people who apparently can do nothing but tell you why it's fine and/or your fault and send you back to the website. Maddening.
