I've started to add BeOS to Infinite Mac - you can see the first few versions on https://infinitemac.org/?filter=beos
Not having been much of a user back in the day, I'm looking for suggestions of software to make sure to include, or pointers to canonical archives (is there a Be version of the Macintosh Garden?)
All the AppleTalk/#GlobalTalk things are working! Colors are funky, though. I still haven't changed the 24-bit hardcoding and need to fix that. Anyway, time to stop and get the current changes checked in.
It sounds like something truly terrible is happening to these goats.
The truly terrible thing that's happening? I am not walking fast enough toward them with the evening grain bucket.
Poor poor goats.
There are many big things to freak out about right now, but don’t forget to freak out about the little things too
💔🙏 Please, help us get these children back to school before this week ends.
Through YECI’s environmental and farming work, we’ve met children whose dreams are fading because their families cannot afford school. We urgently need €500 to help them return this final term. No donation came yesterday, but we still have hope. Please, stand with us. Even a small contribution can change a child’s future. ❤️

Is this worrying?
I’m worried. 😟
i wonder if there is a relationship between being really good at repairing things and also being comfortable with things being kinda broken or in disrepair
For once, I agree with the New York Times: the solution to overcome over reliance on AI is to go back to using AOL Instant Messenger-ish, Windows 95 version, on a Macintosh Classic, in colour.
They never said it would be easy.
My friend Bryce's monster video project, where he recreated the Episode I podrace course (from scratch without AI), is kinda going viral.
You can do your part by boosting wherever you can, lol

🤦 Facepalm of the day
The famous retro YouTuber "The 8-Bit Guy" decided to alienate his core audience and destroy his whole reputation with a single video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmgeFTAk2a8
(He "made" a "movie" with genAI that he will show in a cinema. The vast majority of the thousands of comments on the video are extremely negative.)

Also there’s loads of speculation about if it’s Russia, China, Iran.
It’s likely a bored teen in their underpants in between Roblox sessions. Not a joke.
🍄 Beneath our feet lies an invisible world that keeps our ecosystems alive. Mycorrhizal fungi connect with plant roots, helping them access water and nutrients while supporting healthy soils and biodiversity.
Protecting the soil means protecting life itself. 🌱
What if we started treating soil not as dirt, but as a living ecosystem worth protecting?
You can literally recreate it with a single line bash command to apply to the internet in a loop. A write-up on how to defrost the fridges appeared online in August. It’s a zero-skill thing to pull off, I wrote the bash script while having a shit.
I got a call from someone I don't know.
"Hi. We have a FreeBSD server. It's been working perfectly for years, but it hasn't been updated since then. We asked AI to update it, but now it won't boot anymore. It didn't even make a backup before starting. The AI keeps trying things, everything is down, and we've already spent over €500 in tokens. Can you help us?"
"Sure. €500, plus the time it'll take me to try to fix it. Assuming it can still be fixed and nothing important has been deleted."
"That much?"
Some silence.
"Well, I hope AI takes your job away!" And he hung up.
Believing that autopilot automatically makes you an invulnerable professional pilot will ruin far more people than job losses will.
I don't know if AI will take my job away, but it's already cost them €500 and, probably, their server.
