I've started to add BeOS to Infinite Mac - you can see the first few versions on https://infinitemac.org/?filter=beos
Not having been much of a user back in the day, I'm looking for suggestions of software to make sure to include, or pointers to canonical archives (is there a Be version of the Macintosh Garden?)
Thanks everyone for the software suggestions, I've added a few to Infinite HD (and also some CD-ROMs to the drawer). This includes SheepShaver, so you can emulate a Mac while emulating BeOS while running in a browser virtual machine.
Runs best on more recent BeOS releases, e.g. https://infinitemac.org/2000/BeOS%205.0.3
@mihaip yesssssss
@mihaip Where can I get the startup disk from? 🤩
@marcandsweep I've uploaded the disk images I've made so far to https://github.com/mihaip/infinite-mac/releases/tag/beos-disk-images-2026-09-30, though they're pretty vanilla installs.
As for that error message, were you trying the BeOS disk image on a different machine/on a custom instance? It's only supported on the Power Mac 7300.
@mihaip @marcandsweep I had this exact Mac and installed BeOS on a Zip drive :)
Thanks for your work.
@mihaip I just hit the "Run" button.
@marcandsweep Do you have a bootable system in your Saved HD? It may be choosing that (instead of the drive). You can temporarily disable it by using the "Customize…" option.
@mihaip Not at all. I naively assumed the "Run" button just starts a default configuration like with the other machines.
@marcandsweep It should. Which version of BeOS are you trying to run? What URLs ends up being generated?
@mihaip Ah, it works on my iPhone 😅
Need to check what different to Firefox on my Macbook.

@mihaip https://github.com/HaikuArchives/ has a few programs, including Pe, a terrific (for the time) programmer’s editor. There was actually a nascent commercial software scene, but I don’t know how many of the apps have survived—I remember ePicture, an object-oriented bitmap graphics program similar to Macromedia Fireworks, and “MailIt,” an email program from the same folks.
@mihaip 11fps with the teapot in browser is so scary.. and neat! Thanks for doing this!
