I feel tech is a world where excellence isn’t rewarded, entitlement is everywhere, and for a movement (FOSS) and career that talks a ton about the importance of people, it sure has a way of chewing them up and spitting them out.

Hard to expect humanity from a field which many people entered because they despise being around people (whatever the reason may be, by that'd doesn't excuse the result). Add to that delusion of superiority and techies considering humanities a "lesser science" and the result is gestures around
So yeah, techies are in general shitty people to be around
And just like only other men can fix shitty men (totally doesn't correlate with why tech field is so shit to be in), only techies can fix their own clusterfuck.
But holy shit is it going to be a herculean job and its going cost some of our sanities :neofox_not_like_this_derp:
Nov 4, 2026, 10:14 PM@rawenwolf the sad part is there’s no other viable career path for many people in tech, it’s often a career chosen due to physical/mental disability and lack of viable options or ability to change career (like me)
I got into tech because I couldn't make a living playing in an orchestra and didn't want to spend my life sweeping floors and scrubbing toilets for poverty wages.
If the adults in my life when I was 18 weren't utterly useless, I might have become a plumber or an electrician instead.
But, no, they said: "Become a programmer. You won't have to deal with people."
Which turned out to be a bald-faced lie, incidentally.
I've been in this trade for 30 years and I still can't figure out if mental illness is a prerequisite for working in tech, or an occupational hazard.
