These endlessly fascinate me

@Elizafox
Hard to expect humanity from a field which many people entered because they despise being around people (whatever the reason may be, by that'd doesn't excuse the result). Add to that delusion of superiority and techies considering humanities a "lesser science" and the result is gestures around
So yeah, techies are in general shitty people to be around
And just like only other men can fix shitty men (totally doesn't correlate with why tech field is so shit to be in), only techies can fix their own clusterfuck.
But holy shit is it going to be a herculean job and its going cost some of our sanities :neofox_not_like_this_derp:

Hot take: AI use in established projects is a form of protest, although not seen that way by either side.

If you’re at the point you’d rather use a computer to code for you than to do it yourself? That’s a sign you’ve lost all joy in your craft. People who enjoy doing things don’t make the machine do it for them. It’s a sign they hate their jobs and resent what they have to do, so much so they no longer care about what they’re doing, or what people will think.

Sure, loads and loads of people have gone into tech because they’re chasing six-figure salaries and they’re one of the few high-paying industries left. That is certainly real.

But I think the reason it gets used so much in part is maintainers have all these expectations put on them, no one willing to continue the project (or they are continuing for ego/career/“I have to do this” reasons), and almost no external support.

Look at how few actual foundational projects have forks after they’ve become slopified. People will fork their text editor or web framework but won’t fork libusb or aiohttp or other things. That says something I think about tech too.

It never ceases to astound me how entitled users of FOSS who paid absolutely nothing and rarely give anything to projects will get up in arms about something becoming slopified yet do nothing to help. As if they’re entitled to code that isn’t slop. No one owes you code for free. Go fucking write it. Or pay someone to write it. Or accept this will continue to happen.

“We want things written by humans, not AI! But also we will make unreasonable demands of the human, never stop to even thank them, definitely won’t compensate them in any way for free labour, and become offended when they burn out.”

WOKE 👏 IS 👏 SO 👏 FUCKING 👏 BACK 👏 BABY 👏

It’s telling that nothing sparks joy for me in tech anymore huh.

I feel tech is a world where excellence isn’t rewarded, entitlement is everywhere, and for a movement (FOSS) and career that talks a ton about the importance of people, it sure has a way of chewing them up and spitting them out.

i have been unemployed for the past two years so that i could take care of my partner who had cancer, she is no longer with us and now it is even more difficult to find a job.

While all eyes are on Mississippi, know that nearly 10% of that state's voting age residents are disenfranchised.

If I wear my shirt and pants inside out does this mean I’m naked but everyone else is wearing my clothes

I need to send @ielenia a postcard sometime

Now is the time, America.

When Hakeem says, "Americans just want to move on," you scream NO. There is no moving ON without moving THROUGH.

When GOP folks suggest they were always anti-Trump, you bring the receipts.

STAY MAD. BECAUSE THE WORK ISN'T GONNA GET DONE THROUGH NOT PROSECUTING THE PAST - Y'ALL HAVE BEEN TRYING THAT SINCE NIXON AND IT TURNS OUT TRUMP IS THE OUTCOME.

You don't get another chance, I think.

Stay on the phone to your fucking congresspeople-elect, especially right now while they're cooking their messaging.

also extremely glad that there’s a large enough Senate majority that reactionary dipshits like Fetterman and Turek can’t be the rotating villain as easily as Joe Manchin and Kristin Sinema were

my taxes are still paying for him to post pro-Israel and pro-genocide shit on his socmed accounts all day for another two years, but he’ll be gone sooner than later

Nuclear-level take: I predict Washington will go red in 10 years. It has all the ingredients: extreme fiscal conservatism, increasing social conservatism, extreme disdain for the poor and disabled and especially the homeless, a long tradition of racism (Seattle is the second whitest major city in the US after Portland and has tried very hard to price out PoC from the city), huge population of techbros and people into dark enlightenment, and well... honestly go look at r/Seattle and r/Washington sometime on Reddit and you'll see what your average Washingtonian really believes.

Oh and our public services here are terrible.

Sad that more people aren’t talking about how Washington and Colorado just voted to throw young girls under the bus.

@Elizafox yeah, we have a lot to celebrate but standing up for trans kids isn’t one of them.
