I'm afraid I would be afraid to ever put a record anywhere near something this expensive! It's a turntable. How can it ever cost that much for a turntable?

Ah, a turntable worth £319.50 but multiplied by 10 for the psychological placebo effect of how expensive it is, as expected by the genuine 'audiophile' enthusiast.
It's that special audiophile thing, isn't it. The gold-plated connectors and hand-built pre-amp circuit all give excellent separation on the bass and treble. The platter is hand-crafted and balanced to give the ultimate in crack and pop reproduction.

The equivalent fluff in bike reviews is 'extra stiffness'... and 'compliance'.
Take from that what you will.
When I was a sales guy, we used to sell pretty high end binoculars, and my justification for higher price stuff then was "after a certain level, the smallest improvements cost a lot of money to make," which sounded true but I had pulled it out of thin air one day with no idea if it was true or not.
@scribblanitea @snaptophobic hehe.. looks like I did the audiophile thing back in about 1988.. Mission turntable. Platter weighs 7Kg! But not for that kind of dosh... I think about £300? Probably worth the same now 🙂
I have an elderly Technics SL-1500. It must be nearly 50 years old, and still works like a charm.
@snaptophobic Once I would have said that 50 years old is REALLY old, but as I'm nearly sixty I currently think it's not that old actually and probably has a lot of life in it yet.
@scribblanitea @snaptophobic nice. I recently saved the hifi from my late Dad's house before we sold it.. Garrard SP-25 in a 1950s teak cabinet 😁. Good as new and about the same age as me!
