    @edward @bloor

    Very good idea 🙂

    TIL:

    • Absolute Privilege (MPs and Peers): Members of Parliament enjoy absolute immunity from civil or criminal liability (such as defamation suits) for what they say inside Parliament. This protection does not extend to people who repeat or report those statements outside of Parliament.

    • Qualified Privilege (Reporters and Media): Under UK JournoHub's guide on Parliamentary Privilege & Reporting, a contemporaneous, fair, and accurate report of parliamentary proceedings is protected by qualified privilege.

    • When Protection is Lost: Qualified privilege is not absolute ("qualified" is the key word). The protection is lost if:

    • The report is not fair and accurate.

    • It is published with malice (such as an improper purpose or knowing it is false).

    • It involves illegal re-publication outside Parliament that violates specific court orders or injunctions (where statutory protection under the Parliamentary Papers Act 1840 may not apply unless taken directly from official sources like Hansard).
