I cycled in University Avenue bike lane today, as did *many* other people on bikes. That lane kept me safe.

I so nearly witnessed a terrible accident yesterday morning. I was out with Joni around 7am when I saw a cyclist slowly making his way up the hill. He was wearing full hi vis and keeping to the right. I heard a car coming towards him and thought.... no no no, don't try to pass him on this hill with zero visibility in the low light... but of course he did and almost hit the first of 3 tightly packed cars coming towards him down the hill. I couldn't see what manœuvre the cyclist might have done, but he had few options. The driver passing him had to cut in sharply and the oncoming vehicles had to swerve to the side of the road to avoid hitting that car.
I think there were probably 5 sets of underwear that needed changing when they got to work. 6 if you count mine.
I can't help thinking that If that cyclist had been 'taking the lane' , the car driver would not have attempted to pass him.
I was terrified for that poor cyclist.

Ford's entire bike lane fixation is cynical political posturing for a base that will neither benefit nor pay for the result.
It's distressingly on theme for his govt.
We live in the dumbest and cruelest timeline.
@rebeld Yeah, bike lanes are really about distracting from various corrupt property development schemes. Disappointing to say the least that it actually works.
