I had the unique experience of a monarch caterpillar who decided to attach itself to the door knob of my camper. I used a blueberry container, taped it over the chrysalis so it would be protected and I could watch the process . I decided to call him Doorknob Dave and when it emerged I was surprised that it was actually Doorknob Demelza...a female🤣

@celi52 I found a pupa on my sunroom floor a few weeks ago and placed it in a jar to give it a safe place to emerge. I was sadly on a business trip when it happened, but out came a dagger moth! My family released her that day, so bon voyage moth. good luck doing your mothy things! and good luck lady doorknob dave. 😁🙃
@CosmicGoat that's really cool! 😎

@celi52 wow! How long did the process take?
@marsiposa about two weeks. ☺️
@celi52 wonderful!
@celi52 how do you tell a male monarch from a female one?
@brunogirin @celi52 Male monarch butterflies have two little dots (swollen pouches) and thinner black lines vs. female monarchs.
It can be hard to tell when they're fluttering about, but the dots are an easy tell if they sit still for a second.
@celi52 Wow. That is so cool!!
I love nature ❤️🦋
