Perhaps I'm being over-optimistic, but Bramble jelly straining overnight, jars and lids sterilising in the oven (and I'll leave them there until the morning) and then, power or no power, I can add the sugar and bottle the jelly (by candle light if necessary)!

The deep red juice of brambles straining through a jelly bag hung, as tradition demands, from the legs of an upturned chair.

I have visions of scones, clotted cream and glorious, glistening bramble jelly…

My wonderful Uncle Joe used to make bramble jelly. I always remember one year my Aunt complaining he’d given it all away… (very ‘him’). He replied the brambles were free and her hot retort was the sugar and electricity were not!

She was a very canny housewife. But goodness knows, she had to be. My Uncle had the kindest most generous nature.

@TalktoBeverley - It is very true, though. Most of this will go to people who want it (or to whom I make an offer that they feel they can't refuse :-) ) I'll keep a little for myself.

Now I’m thinking of my Nana’s bramble and apple pie…

I think I’m going to raid the pantry… actually I didn’t notice the time, despite dusk falling. It is time to eat. I suppose I was blaming the storm that’s rolling in for the lack of light.

Hope when you wake there are no ‘casualties’. A couple of years ago the roof lost some tiles which only just missed the car.

    Take care.
