We have a weasel in the woodpile!!!

This:

"The Reclaim The Night demo will highlight cuts to women's services and call for secure multi-year funding for the Women's Service at Murray's Initiative and funding for specialist women's services, housing, refuges and alcohol and drug services. Organisers say communities in Glasgow are being told there are insufficient resources to keep women safe, while lifeline women's services face closure."

Wait, wait, hold up a second.

I just found out that lemons are not a natural fruit but a deliberately cultivated hybrid between citron and a bitter orange.

Guys! Life didn't give us lemons we made them ourselves!

Happy birthday to Antonie van Leeuwenhoek (1632 – 1723), the Dutch scientist & progenitor of #microbiology known for his improvements to microscope tech. He was a draper in Delft, then a politician with an interest in lensmaking. Using his handmade #microscopes, he was 1st to observe microorganisms, which he called tiny animals, or “animalcules”. He also made pioneering microscopic observations on muscle fibres, bacteria, coffee 🧵

Perhaps I'm being over-optimistic, but Bramble jelly straining overnight, jars and lids sterilising in the oven (and I'll leave them there until the morning) and then, power or no power, I can add the sugar and bottle the jelly (by candle light if necessary)!

Oh dear, what a shame...! https://www.irishtimes.com/world/europe/2026/10/24/suspect-arrested-over-fire-at-adolf-hitlers-former-eagles-nest-retreat-in-germany/

Flying twigs rattling the roof already. I have a feeling that I am going to be incommunicado this evening and well into tomorrow.

“Billionaire Wealth: Inequality and the Revolt Against Neoliberalism”

by Craig Murray in Savage Minds on Substack

@uk_politics
@UKLabour

“In the UK, just 50 families hoard more wealth than the poorest 50% of the population—over 36 million people. To pretend that this mind-boggling inequality of wealth is beneficial and in no way related to the prevalence of poverty requires intellectual dishonesty of an extreme level. Yet it is the neoliberal orthodoxy of our times and subscribed to by all the major UK political parties.”

Bad day: Your kid pulls the wedding ring off your finger while playing in a foreign mountain stream. Italian hikers: we will start a quest to find The Ring. Fark (in a good way): They find it and dress like hobbitses when returning it

Farming or hunting animals for fur that is then used to adorn humans needs to end. If, as suggested, controlling avian flu in these mink leads to the death of the industry, then that can only be a good thing.

Canadians can’t afford rent. Food bank use is at a record high. Wages are stagnant while the rich are getting richer than ever before.

Of all the people who could use this kind of federal support right now, venture capitalists are at the bottom of that list.

Wife and I are watching "Alien" (1979) and it's hilarious how the entire movie could just have been titled "Stuff would have been fine if any of the men on the ship were willing to listen to a woman" LOL

More than 400 people are expected to gather outside the United States embassy in London on October 31 in the latest act of mass defiance against the British government’s ban on the #PalestineAction group.

During the initial legal challenge back in 2025, it emerged that Trump and Starmer had spoken by phone twice about Palestine Action in the March of that year. Starmer had requested updates from Police Scotland on the arrests about the damage done to his precious golf course. He briefed Trump regularly and that's why we shall be outside the embassy.

On Halloween Day mass defiance and the mass arrests expected to follow will lay bare the fundamental rights to free expression. I may go for a 'hattrick'

WE SHALL WIN

you can be part of this too.

Somehow, and I don't quite know how it happened, I have a sixteen year old granddaughter who is off with some fellow pupils to visit Edinburgh and Stirling Universities before they start work towards highers..

Highly suggestive of deeptime #Bushman #cosmology: traces of ancient collagen protein from the common #eland (Taurotragus oryx), a species of antelope, on a 60,000-year-old ochre-rich surface in the Kilpdrift Complex.

A welcome and principled decision by ScotGov. We don't need more golf courses.

"Designations aren’t hoops to jump through. They mean something. They’re a line in the sand, evidence-based and legally defined. It’s a collective decision for the good of Society to protect Coul Links, and two public inquiries agree. Upholding that decision, as Ministers have done, does not impede Scotland’s future — it’s part of building one."
