@ElenLeFoll I used to do part of my PhD works on these folks: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brachypelma_albiceps , formerly known as Eurypelma. Or rather their blood.
I am proud to claim the position of our house's spider removal expert, too.
Still not really fond of our eight-legged flatmates ... Kudos to you!
@rupdecat Wow, none of the ones I removed today were quite that hairy! Also, that Wikipedia article says "commonly available at pet stores". Seriously?!
@ElenLeFoll Seriously! For otherwise we would not have been able to hold so many (~ 200 at peak times).
https://doi.org/10.1016/j.bbapap.2007.08.019 - one of my first co-authorships. We used to do research on allosteric properties of big protein complexes (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allosteric_regulation). These "pets" were our model organisms.
I leave the scary stories for another time. 🤡
@rupdecat Please share some true scary stories for Halloween! We can launch a new hashtag #ScientificHalloween or similar?
@ElenLeFoll
Will do. The idea is enticing. Though I only know a story or two which might fall in that category.
@rupdecat If you go viral, I'm sure others will be able to share their own horror science stories!
@ElenLeFoll @rupdecat there surely should be no lack of stories about ghoulish supervisors, sadly...
@mario_angst_sci
Yes, I'm afraid so. Yet, most such stories I know are less suited for Halloween: My ideal narrator would tell something scary with a twinkle of humour. (Not that I guarantee to be that ideal narrator!) That is to say: All the supervisor stories I know aren't scary. They are just sad.
