    A lot of cis people still think that HRT medication is something that trans people do for fun, like it's recreational drugs or something.

    Instead you should really think about it like insulin for people with diabetes or L-thyroxine for people with thyroid deficiency.

    @aesthr Yep. I very deliberately think of and talk about my testosterone the same way I talk about my other meds: it's just something I need to take because my body doesn't make enough on its own.

    @bright_helpings @aesthr Every once in a while somebody's like "I could never transition because can you even imagine having to take medication for the rest of your life???" and I'm like "so.... you just wake up and breathe??? and you can walk??? no meds, just your body does that??? what is it LIKE?"

    @MaggieFero @aesthr I've never understood this kind of healthism/ableism: I wear my glasses every day, I eat food every day, there's so many things I do every day! why shouldn't medication be one of them?!

    @aesthr There’ll always be those who argue that going without won’t kill you (not knowing/caring that their chud sons are gleefully posting “40 PERCENT1!!!1” everywhere they’re not banned) whereas the diabetic would die, so it’s different, you see.

    Those same people will immediately get a cast after they break their leg, even if there’s no risk of sepsis and they’re not bleeding out. Wonder why that is?

    @agturcz I am pointing out the ways in which the casually anti-trans crowd are directly connected to the virulently anti-trans crowd and how their (willful) ignorance of what GAC does plays into their unthoughtful rejection of healthcare for others for reasons that they don’t apply to themselves.

    @agturcz That’s okay, I do that too. Definitely doesn’t help the insomnia.

    Yeah, I think I saw that story, the UK woman? It’s tough, because I want to be informed, but balancing that and not tuning out is hard.

    @aesthr My recently transitioning wife took tests to make sure estrogen wouldn't interfere with her other medications and treatments. She has multiple sclerosis and suffered a stroke.

    I also know of another person who was all but guaranteed to have a shorter lifespan if they transitioned, and they did it anyway. I don't fault them, and I wouldn't stop them.

    For the record, I'm against the raid. Typing this out, I wonder if ensuring "proper protocol" would be used as more of an excuse.

    @aesthr

    100%. Insulin, thyroxine, estrogen, progesterone, testosterone are ALL Hormone Replacement Therapies. Being on prescriptive HRT is fairly common. We all know Hegseth and Bobby Kennedy are on HRT.

    I am on hormone replacement therapy as an elderly cis woman. My late 97 year old mom was on HRT until she died 15 years ago.

    @aesthr figures. I can't not feel guilty about doing stimulant drugs so that I can actually focus.

    @aesthr Not to mention steroids for people with addisons....
    And all the myriad of pituitary malfunctions that stop things working properly unless you are given regular doses of hormones....
