It feels strange that AI proponents seem to think our culture would have been better if we replaced musicians, artists, and authors with AI. Maybe it's just the result of a society where art and culture have outpriced 90% of the population.

@kdkorte What exactly do you mean by an "AI proponent"? I strongly support certain applications of AI, while being deeply concerned about others and their potential consequences.

I don't think such simplistic labels help us address the very real and serious challenges AI poses. On the contrary, they risk reinforcing the polarization that makes constructive debate so difficult.

Or is that polarization intentional? Do you believe that AI should simply be banned altogether?

@ghrasko I think we should be more intentional about technology, especially about AI.

Right now, I have the feeling that we are full in a bubble of "technology is the only thing changing humanity for the better." At the same time we forget that there are other things in life from relationships to art to a liveable planet.

@kdkorte I share many of your concerns about the impact of AI. That's precisely why I insist on being specific rather than dividing people into AI proponents and opponents.

What exactly do you mean by AI? All machine learning and neural network technologies, or specifically generative AI?

I don't think the technology itself is the problem. What matters is how, by whom, and for what purposes it is developed and deployed, and under what safeguards and accountability.
