    @Viss Even just a tricorder that could accurately diagnose the problem in a single doctor visit. Having to go to multiple doctors and medical imaging and "well we'll try this med, and come back in 8 weeks" x 10

    @JessTheUnstill @Viss modern medical technology is objectively amazing, but we are still closer to the blood lett-ers and humours of old than we are to the (hopefully inevitable) star trek style future where we can easily identify and fix issues at their source.

    If future doctors came back to today they would view our current methods with the same disgust and pity as bones in the star trek movie.

    @Viss @varx And don't even get me started on psych meds. They just throw random pills at the wall until you finally stop trying to find something better.

    @Viss @varx I can't even imagine the stuff we could have done if we put 6 trillion into making the world a better place instead of AI.

    @JessTheUnstill
    I know what's wrong (type 1 diabetes).
    Managing it is known (CGM sensors, automatable pump + consumables, insulin (well, two kinds, because $reasons)).
    The physical maintenance and effectively being on-call for it all the time is at least 1/4 of a "job".
    And that's before getting into the whole sheer **bureaucracy** around renewing permits for those things every few months or every year, depending on which, and what form that takes *this time*.
