Why is secure email so complicated?
All I want is to have one app that can fetch all my emails and calendar invites. I self host a Nextcloud server. I am struggling to understand why Proton and Tuta don't offer easy ways to sync those with a mail app be it Nextcloud or Thunderbird.
Do I really need to go to fastmail or mailbox.org to have a service that supports IMAP? Any email provider recommendation that is not gmail and that would sync with Nextcloud?

Instagram recommend me a video of a guy explaining the California propositions, making a voter guide.

The guy recommended exactly as I have already voted. On all 14 props. Are they algorithmically reading my mind or is Meta listening to my microphone?

Guys I did it, I voted 2 weeks early in the election!!!

NPR Consider This made an episode about the French protests. They invited a guy from a French right wing, neo-liberal think tank to talk about it. Of course he opens his segment talking about fire bombs and continues by only focusing on the violence, lack of safety, looting and burning. Great.

English speaking media is covering this through the lens of French traditional established media, mostly owned by French billionaires. Opinions will be particularly biased in favor of the French gvt, against the protesters and especially against their demands and how left wing parties support them and their demands.
Expect fear mongering, a focus on safety and property. Don't expect dialog or any answers to the social question.

As people say in France: "Only trash is scared of burning trashcans" (Les poubelles qui brûlent ne font peur qu'aux ordures)

From a Parisian very close to me: be wary of falling for the 'rioters & looters' slant on the protests in France. The most consumed press & tv in France is owned by a far right billionaire. Much of the Anglo press is feeding off a take designed to push an anti-immigrant, racist politic. Yes there is looting by some & can hurt small businesses, but what is not shown is the extreme brutality of the police, encircling peacefully protesting kids, teargassing & beating them as they beg for a way out.

Ask me anything about what’s going on in France, except for how to reconcile the budget given the protesters demands.

The protesters don’t care about the budget right now, they have bigger fish to fry.

The gvt is starting to care about the protesters even though it thinks it has bigger fish to fry.

Only people in CA wil get this one

Fuck astrology. Show me your political alignment chart based on your 2026 SF and CA ballot measures positions.

Don’t post a pic of your real ballot though, that’s illegal

We just went to Costco with two acoustic bikes. Brought back $325 of goods, including a giant bag of rice, bags of nuts, olive oil and other heavy or voluminous stuff.
Key items for a successful carbon free Costco journey:
2x Panier bags (wish my BF had a bike rack so we could bring 4)
1x regular backpack
1x backpacking backpack
Tires properly inflated

I'm trying these vibe coded apps that claim to be a FOSS replacement for Photoshop and other Adobe products.
SoundCraft: (ProTools clone) Not usable. Cannot change the buffer or set the inputs properly. Huge latency when playing guitar and using the built in monitoring. Will wait a week or two to try again.
PhotoCraft: So far pretty impressive. The one tool that does not behave as intended is the mixer bursh tool to do digital painting with nice blends. Need to work on a project in it to find more issues.
Will slop open-source kill proprietary software or is it just the beginning of a wave of trash, projects that are fun for 2 weeks and then will never be finished, maintained, updated...

My SW engineer friends who work in big tech in SF were telling me last night that no one at work writes code by hand anymore. AI is involved all the time, to generate the code and to review it. However, it sounded like vibe coding is involved only in a minority of cases.

They got a bit shocked when I was telling them that AI use in FOSS projects is a huge source of tension right now, that some projects are shutting down or forking hard because of it.

God forbid they provide any advice on how to get there with Muni or by bike.
What’s with hospitals assuming everyone arrives in an ambulance or uber?
How much of the traffic is just scheduled appointments of patients who can absolutely get there without a car?

I don’t like the name Pixelfed. It sounds weird. I struggle to find a better one though. Pixie would be better but it’s probably taken already.
FPix would be ok, it already looks like a P occulting/clipping another one.
