    The #LifetimePlaylist train arrives at #1979 today, another rich year for #PerfectSongs (especially punk ones):

    * The Clash, “Death or Glory”
    * B-52’s “Rock Lobster”
    * Sugar Hill Gang, “Rapper’s Delight”
    * The Pagans, “Eyes of Satan”†

    Hon. Mention: Gang of Four, “Anthrax”; Stiff Little Fingers, “Suspect Device”; Clash, “Rudie Can’t Fail”

    † Apparently, this wasn't released until the 1986 𝘉𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘥 𝘈𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦 compilation, but I'm pretty sure it was recorded in 79 & I love it too much to omit.

    @donutage wooo Death or Glory and Rudie! Man, I listen to London Calling so much. Looks like I will have to hit it again this week. 😂 And those are 2 of the best songs on it. And Suspect Device! Those Stiff Little Fingers. One of the greatest punk songs ever written. 🔥

    @jake4480 🤜🤛

    𝘓𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘰𝘯 𝘊𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 is an amazing album, full stop.

    Also love the Stiff Little Fingers! For the longest time, I only knew them through 𝘐𝘯𝘧𝘭𝘢𝘮𝘮𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘔𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘴, which means I had never heard the equally ferocious "Fly the Flag" until I found 𝘕𝘰𝘣𝘰𝘥𝘺'𝘴 𝘏𝘦𝘳𝘰𝘦𝘴 a couple years ago.

    @jake4480 𝘕𝘰𝘣𝘰𝘥𝘺'𝘴 𝘏𝘦𝘳𝘰𝘦𝘴 is a good record. Not as amazing start to finish as 𝘐𝘯𝘧𝘭𝘢𝘮𝘮𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘔𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘴, but a solid followup. It has a cover of the Specials' "Doesn't Make It Alright" which is an interesting example of the punk-ska cross-fertilization that was going on then.

    @donutage @jake4480 SLF are great. When I was a teenager my band played loads of shows with Jake Burns' nephew's band in Belfast. Usually to about 12 people or something like that 😂

    @rosscampbell @donutage I was never into much ska aside from Bosstones and a little Suicide Machines but ironically I think I discovered SLF via NOFX being fans (and who of course briefly flirted with ska themselves) or potentially Billie Joe and Green Day- the weird link there being they were both part of Me First and the Gimme Gimmes. I recently saw this underground band I dig Still Animals open up for Me First, I didn't stick around for Me First that night though as it was getting late. 😀

    @jake4480 @donutage there's an amazing Belfast ska punk band called Pocket Billiards, you need to check them out. Another band we graced (disgraced?) the same bill as back in the day! 9 piece I think with a brass section, it was pretty funny seeing them squeezed onto the tiny stages of bars in Belfast and still dancing like maniacs during their shows!!

    @donutage I remember recording Rapper's Delight off of the radio, then playing it over and over to try and memorize the lyrics. 😅

    @nevar23 I did gymnastics in middle school, & I remember a particular Saturday morning when a coach blasted that song while we practiced in a mostly empty gym. It was fascinating, but because I white & suburban, I didn't really hear the song again for a few decades. The "Kaopectate" rhyme & a few other parts stuck with me though, until I finally bought a Sugar Hill Gang best-of many years later.

    @donutage It was fascinating, and so different! None of my also white and suburban classic rock listening friends liked it, so I kind of secretly appreciated it.
