Witches and that sort,
Question:
How much do you incorporate The Elements into your work? Do you have representations of them on your altar?
Do you cast a circle and call them before you do a ritual or working? Do you work the Watchtowers with the Elements?
In our local practice, the elements are not associated with cardinal directions. Water is beneath us (water witching). Fire could be the direction of the coal fields. There's a big lake to the south and mountains to the east of us.
We don't call corners/elements/watchtower.
Our altar is a table to collect offerings, mementos of the occasion - like cornhusk dolls, or photos, or harvested produce, or nuts and seeds collected in the winter, etc.
@KentuckyConjurer I suppose I acknowledge them, but more as archetypes, not literal representations? Like, fire is the force of transformation, air is the breath of life, etc. They don’t take a central role in my work.
I do work with directions but elements aren’t really involved. I’m pretty sure Watchtowers are a Golden Dawn then Wicca thing and I’m not either.
Sep 11, 2026, 3:44 PMI have directions and elements indicated with decorations in my main house room, so I'd say elements are used regularly. They are represented on my house altar.
I rarely cast circles but if I was doing a working with them, I would. I use non-standard/localized direction and elemental associations. I do not use watchtowers.
@KentuckyConjurer I sometimes remember to cast circles but usually don't. I work with the elements as Land, Sea, and Sky with fire at the centre, but don't assign compass directions to them because they're all around us, always.
@KentuckyConjurer I usually don't, might call on one element when it fits what I'm doing.
