People ask what it takes to keep a 1000-year-old witch like me alive, then look shocked when I tell them I need 1 human baby sacrifice every moon cycle.

But when you amortize the baby over a month, it’s barely anything. What’s a baby weigh…8 lb.s? That’s like a 1/4 lb. a day—that’s hardly any baby!

This is my appreciation post for my new neighbor, Maria, who is an absolute delight and she just gave us a jar of her chili oil to taste test.

She said she started making her own chili oil because the stuff from the store isn't spicy enough for her, so she's been trying to make her own so we just tried it on our Friday night pizza and it's seriously SO good! Like the perfect blend of spiciness and garlickiness and crunchiness.

Anyway, all of this to say that everyone should have a neighbor like Maria.

A kind reader submitted the Rufus installer to any.run, a sandbox which walks through the installation of software to find malware that gets installed only *AFTER* the executable is clicked. You can see exactly all of the post-install prompts to download additional software that I also saw.

svg-sanitize rebuilds untrusted SVG as static vector graphics only. It does not simply search and replace script tags. It parses XML with defusedxml, checks resource limits, and constructs an entirely new XML tree from a small, explicit allowlist of elements, attributes, and valid values.

Thanks to @wachizungu for the initial idea at the @hack_lu hackathon and also @therealsaumil to trigger me again about SVG at the 20th edition hack.lu ;-)

It's a prototype and maybe utterly broken.
