    One of the trade-offs with publishing FOSS software is that your work gets attributed. If you don’t do that, you don’t use my work according to the terms I have published them.

    @janl More importantly, attribution is a basic requirement of copyright. That's why CC-BY is the most permissive level of Creative Commons licenses (other than their public domain dedication statement). In order for there to be copyright, there must be a copyright holder, and that holder must be identified.
