Chatting with coworkers before a meeting and mild apologies for my dragging state since the vaccine response meant I slept bad.
One was SHOCKED I get the covid boosters. So I guess it’s worth normalizing that still?

@amcvittie ok, that now gives rise to a whoooooooole buncha other questions.
I once worked with a stereotypical suburban influence-pilled mom who was also an active anti-vaxxer (also ‘chemicals’ and all the other buzzwords).
Eventually she was fired for taking credit for other folks’ work.
@octothorpe 🤷🏼♀️ nice person. High level of worry in general.
Told them I know a person who almost died and one who got a cardiac condition so … seemed reasonable to me?
I don’t mask. I’m not particularly cautious in most settings though I don’t go out a lot. It’s endemic here now so… why is this shocking? I guess the fear is still really out there.
@amcvittie @octothorpe It feels like the media has stopped encouraging boosters, too. The only small bits I've seen have seemed to focus on "if you're over 50 and have chronic conditions", as if covid is now only dangerous and should be avoided if you're in that population.
@hollie @amcvittie locally we have flu shot adverts ‘for everyone’ that also encourage you to do it for others as well (ie, the notion being you’re vax will help prevent other people from getting sick). I don’t believe they mention covid though. That said, we do have the occasional covid ad but I think that’s for the pharma companies that have new formulae.
@octothorpe @hollie whe n I was young they were treated as a scarce resource. The elderly got it first. They gave flu shots at the GM plant for obvious economic reasons in an open shop environment. I assume the production just hadn’t scaled up
@amcvittie I’m afraid to ask who…
