Aug 29, 2026, 2:28 PMOK I need to get my ass in gear and move my personal site off of Vercel, where is good these days for low effort static site hosting that's less ethically compromised? Have Netlify done anything awful lately? #indieweb #WebDev #PersonalSites
@kyle Some years ago a whole bunch of people I followed and who worked at Netlify suddenly quit or were laid off at once, and talked in a manner that made it sound like something baaad went on there. Put me off using it again.
As a user I've gone from Vercel → Netlify → Cloudflare over the years. CF is incredibly convenient, especially today with AI crawlers bombarding every site, but ethically… *sigh*.
Aug 29, 2026, 7:00 PM@jonikorpi thanks, yeah that rings a bell with me too. For a personal site it's hard to argue with the convenience, sadly.
@kyle I just moved some of my sites on my own Coolify instance on a vps, but that can be expensive, so now I’m looking at adding a local server as a deploy target for it.
Definitely more work than just using US based conpanies, but it feels good.
Aug 29, 2026, 6:57 PM@hmiron thanks, I hadn't heard of Coolify, that looks neat. I was quite happy to retire my VPSs a few years ago but it might be the best solution
