What advice in your fandom (or fandoms in general) have you received about participating in them that have really helped you?
I think the best advice I've gotten (& given) is to encourage & embrace the lurk. To lurk is to learn!
But also, ime, lurking might not help as much when you want to start interacting. 🧵 1/2
Communities have to get to know *you* too & it can be a record scratch. You think you've shared a beige flag w/a chill tone? Think again 😂 It could be fan community baggage OR just weird one-off miscommunication, but being resilient & persistent usually pays off (unless you start feeling the whole vibe is toxic, which has happened to me before too, so at that point I've noped out of that community to find other ones) 🧵 2/2
