Speaking of gamedev studios that need a shakeup, what the heck has Mojang been doing for ten years? They hired some of the hottest Minecraft mod developers making the coolest things, and… did nothing with them? Minecraft had so much potential — top Minecraft mods birthed entire multimillion-dollar game genres, like Factorio and its ilk — but the actual dev team has wasted their time building and adding one cute animal a year. Minecraft could have been an engine for an entire industry of games

@stroughtonsmith I was thinking the same thing a while back. After 10 years, I reinstalled MC to introduce it to my daughter. I was so surprised that basically nothing had changed. I couldn't believe it.
But: I read just today they add one-time-use straw beds in the next update ^^
ONE TIME USE. God, they must hate sheep.

@stroughtonsmith Apart from releasing two Minecraft Dungeons games and Minecraft Legends? Seems more prolific than most studios.

@marcoarment @stroughtonsmith my kids (10 and 7) say “Sitting down in Minecraft feels… illegal.” I guess means it’s a cool development. But as an adult I agree… get goong on Vibrant Visuals for Java and introduce some new game mechanics… seriously.

@stroughtonsmith Don’t underestimate the ability of a “We need to re-write the internals of this hot mess” project to take 10 years.
Some of us are building whole careers on that shit!

@stroughtonsmith agree on your recent takes. Everyone is up in arms about the Microsoft situation but someone has to be held accountable for the poor output of lots of studios. They really need a wake up call.
