Owning a 3D printer: instead of spending €10 on Amazon on a replacement part for a heater’s draw-string, I spent €0.04 instead to print one out 👌

Life comes at you fast: I just realized that the most-recent Intel Mac I have is over fourteen years old 💀

I have a strong suspicion the era of attribution in open source is over. Nothing is going to have a verifiable chain of responsibility anymore, it’s all just one big soup of AI-generated and lifted code. Licenses are meaningless

Big oof, OpenAI is planning on retiring the classic ChatGPT app on macOS in January

“Another statistic is filling our hearts -- we are seeing the most NEW players for a WoW launch in 15 YEARS!”

Blizzard is reporting that World of Warcraft Forever is “the biggest launch in WoW history by peak concurrent players” and “the highest number of returning players in WoW history”

This is mind blowing considering WoW last peaked sixteen years ago with Wrath of the Lich King.

The retail team is going to have some *major* soul-searching to do considering this represents a repudiation of nearly two decades of work

Meanwhile, getting a virtual camera driver up and running

Jumping through hoops just to see what I’m missing. I blame @_inside 😛

This is getting insanely tedious, #Mastodon. Your #community guidelines are terribly nebulous and need to be dialed-in. I'm not sure who I'm dealing with, either - or if reason matters?

One full work-week of codex tokens later, I have the first ever comprehensive iPhone 5 emulator that can boot iOS 6–10 😎

Heads-up: when I contribute this back to qemu-ios, it will not include the device chrome or the qemu frontend hooks to trigger calls/SMS. Those are all personal embellishments that make me happy, not something the project itself was asking for

(This offscreen-swipe effect first seen on webOS on the Palm Pre, afaik)

I was right about the digitizer; the digitizer extends beyond the screen bounds and provides extra state for when a swipe begins offscreen. Notification Center, Control Center, and back-swipe all rely on this state — touch events coming from the screen itself can’t actually trigger them at all. Just another thing to model

iOS 10 Podcasts still kinda works 🙃

Fixed a few things in the graphics renderer and now all guests hit a smooth frame rate, even up to iOS 10 😄

@samhenrigold

iOS 10 with working wallpaper!

Some beautiful classic Warhammer minis returning Made to Order for a few days 🥰

Warhammer The Old World is bleeding me dry lately

There’s no reason for me to rush out a release that merely boots, when I can just finish the job, after all. Usage resets well spent

I didn’t want to half-ass it, so I’ve had codex battle-testing all these VMs to make sure everything works as expected. These are the ‘completion’ artifacts of today’s ‘make sure everything can be inited and installed from scratch and make it to the activated homescreen’ pass, which took a good 16 hours of work. Next up is figuring out the rendering issues that lead to the black wallpaper on iOS 10. After that, I want to make sure microphone input works, and there’s some kind of virtual camera

One reason I think emulators are so important is that it exposes and reintroduces some of the best parts of the past, of the things we’ve lost, to new (and old) eyes. Preservation is so important. You can boot up iOS 6, or something like Aperture, and see for yourself. And I hope designers, decision-makers at Apple find the time to do that.

‘Oh, maybe we made a mistake here’, or ‘feature X was kinda cool, and we never brought it back…’, or ‘man, why did we stop working on this…’

Well I tried the new AI assistant in Logic Pro…

The short analysis is: don’t waste your time. If this feature is powered by OpenAI, there’s no evidence of it whatsoever. It’s more like fuzzy-matched AppleScript commands in a chat box than a powerful AI-powered editor. I thought at least it could throw together a few samples and make a 30 second track, but that’s just not what this is (though it will gleefully tell you it can indeed do that). Swing and a miss, I think
