    @timbray I would love to think he is wisely giving her enough rope, as the saying goes, but bankers are historically patsies for industry - and he is a banker to the core.

    @timbray Here's to hoping.

    I keep worrying that I am projecting my best hopes onto what he's doing, including the type of strategy described here. That as opposed to sober analysis.

    @timbray You don't need to imagine any brilliant strategy here, this is just Ottawa working as it's supposed to: providing a path to building big things, while (mostly) avoiding putting taxpayer money into iffy investments.

    (By contrast, the previous Trans Mountain Expansion project saw legal hurdles derail the initial proponent, then the feds taking over construction, the former upsetting those who favoured the project, and the latter upsetting those who opposed it.)

    @timbray

    This analysis reveals how unjust projects collapse against reality. Amidst these debates, we remind you of our cause in Palestine; just as time destroys false promises, our people's resilience on their land remains the absolute truth, and your continuous support and voice are what strengthen this steadfastness until freedom is achieved.

    @timbray As an Albertan, I concur. Going further, once the pipeline fails on its own merits, Smith's very shaky coalition is almost certain to implode, no matter how many ridiculous raw-meat-to-the-base referendums she holds

    @timbray I agree. It's costing Carney - and the environment - nothing to give Smith everything she wants at this point. And it puts all the pressure on her to deliver - which in the most likely future economy, she won't be able to.
