Honey bees in an opium poppy flower. These poppies grow like weeds around here, and they make for nice early summer free flowers that require no care and attention. They produce a lot of seeds, though I’ve never tried cooking with them.

A photo of interior of an opium poppy flower head. The centre is round and yellow with 10 ray-like lines on it, and is surrounded by a dense ring of pale creamy-pink stamens topped with black anthers. The petals are a reddish pink at the edges, but have a dark, almost black base.

Three honey bees are in the flower searching for pollen and nectar. One bee appears to be just taking off, with its wings a blur.
