The main entrance to the former Govan Town Hall. Designed by Thomson and Sandilands in a Beaux Arts Renaissance style, it was built in 1897. The central part of the facade of this building bears more than a passing resemblance to some of the churches designed by Alexander 'Greek' Thomson. This is perhaps unsurprising as the Thomson in Thomson and Sandilands was John Thomson, the eldest son of Alexander 'Greek' Thomson.
Love the details and shape of these windows on the mid-18th Century St Andrew's Parish Church in St Andrew's Square in the Calton area of Glasgow.

The GCT on the cartouche at the bottom of this rather battered metal box on High Street indicates it's one of the few remaining parts of Glasgow's once extensive tram network. Boxes like this provided an electrical connection to the overhead wires that powered them.

I couldn't complete my recent series of photos from the Springburn area of Glasgow without re-posting this fabulous sculpture of a steam locomotive over the door of James Miller's 1903 North British Locomotive Company offices on Flemington Street.
In the foreground, nestled below the Kingston Bridge, is the former Renfrew Ferry (now an entertainment venue), which was built in the 1950s and once carried cars across the Clyde between Renfrew and Yoker, before being replaced first by the Clyde Tunnel and then a new bridge in 2025 (not visible from here).
Three approaches, built over 50 years, for getting across the Clyde in Glasgow. The structure dominating the picture is the concrete Kingston Bridge, which was opened in 1970 and carries the M8. In the distance is the newer Squinty Bridge (officially known as the Clyde Arc), which opened in 2006 as an alternative to the frequenty jammed Kingston Bridge.

Orchardhill Church (now Orchardlea Community Church) in Gifffnock on the southern edge of Glasgow. Designed by H.W. Clifford in an imposing Gothic Revival style and built in 1899, I particularly like the large square corner tower.

The 1860s Kibble Palace glasshouse in the Glasgow Botanic Gardens. Created by John Kibble, the Kibble Palace was originally built at Coulport on the shores of Loch Long in the 1860s before being taken apart, moved to Glasgow and re-built at its current location in the 1870s.

A carving of a sailing ship from the former Seamen's Mission on the Broomielaw in Glasgow, now on display in the window of the new building standing on the same site. While it's good that this has been preserved, it's positioned in such a way that it's virtually impossible to see it properly.
A beautifully curvaceous door and window on the Gothic Revival style Orchardhill Church in the Giffnock. Built in 1899, it was designed by H.E. Cliffford.

Love this Art Deco style villa on Davieland Road overlooking Rouken Glen Park on the southern edge of Glasgow. There are distinct similarities in style to William Beresford Inglis' former Toledo Cinema in Muirend, and that's because he designed this house as well.

We're now into the last week of having these great sculptures on the city's streets, so if there's any you haven't seen yet, you'll need to get a move on!
Rhuallan House in Giffnock on the outskirts of Glasgow. Designed in a Scots Renaissance style, it was built in the 1890s for a coal merchant by the name of William Brown.

The entrance to St Mary's Episcopal Cathedral on Great Western Road in Glasgow. It was designed in the 1870s by Sir Gilbert Scott, who also designed the main building of Glasgow University in a similar Gothic Revival style.

At this time, it was called the Ferry Queen, a play on Fairy Queen, the name of an earlier generation of tourist boats on the same canal.
In 1999, it was bought by the Clyde Maritime Trust, and returned to the Clyde in 2002. It was moved to its current location, next to the Riverside Museum, in 2013, and can be seen from the northern approach to the new pedestrian bridge between Govan and Partick.
Built by Hugh McLean & Sons Ltd in 1951, and licenced to carry 144 passengers, this is the last surviving example of twenty-three Clyde ferries built to a similar design between 1865 and 1951.
Constructed for the Govan ferry route, it last served on the Kelvinhaugh route, which ceased in 1980. It then served as a tourist boat on the Forth and Clyde Canal between 1981 and 1999. This required alterations to the superstructure so it could pass under canal bridges.

Ferry No. 8 at Kelvin Harbour in Glasgow. This double-ended ferry was one of many owned and operated by the Clyde Navigation Trust to move people and vehicles back and forth across the Clyde. These ferries were needed as bridges could not be built across it without hindering movement of ships up and downstream.

This was the best I could when trying to capture tonight's eclipse in Glasgow: The sun partially hidden by the moon and briefly glimpsed through a crack in the cloud, a statue in silhouette, and a slightly confused gull that kept landing and then taking off again as if it couldn't quite decide whether or not it was time to settle down for the night.
