It’s now possible to be overwhelmed, not by the vast quantity of claimed proofs and counterexamples recently disgorged by OpenAI (most of which would be over my head), but merely by trying to read all the reactions of expert mathematicians to the vast quantity of claimed proofs and counterexamples recently disgorged by OpenAI.

@gregeganSF Software maintainers are facing similar issues, with large numbers of commits and bug reports which represent a basically impossible workload to review given the number of skilled volunteers most of these projects previously devoted to such review or flat out have to allocate to the project in total. Some of the AI generated bug reports may indeed be genuine, but sorting through the submissions is nigh impossible, especially given how AI reports are typically written.

@gregeganSF Having skimmed most of the responses yesterday before going to bed, I have decided to refrain from looking further, just because I think that inadvertently the site organisers have recreated in that post/thread some febrile and toxic aspects of online forums and old-school-blogs. This is independent of which comments I agree/disagree with; I just feel that (as your post alludes to) we in the maths community are DoS-ing our own attention span / emotional capacity.
