@gregeganSF @davidsuculum Duh! They could have asked me. Lasers will not work for fermions, period. Neutrinos are fermions. I'm shocked that this was even proposed.
Though this proposal has been ruled out, I wouldn’t give up hope that we could eventually construct something with a much larger cross-section for neutrino interactions than ordinary matter.
In my story “Wang’s Carpets”, which became a part of DIASPORA, there is some hand-waving about excited nuclear states with this property [and which are kept from decaying too soon to be useful by employing the quantum Zeno effect].

@gregeganSF I remember Wang's Carpets, and also Diaspora, as some of my favourites short sf stories ever, although I don't remember that detail exactly!😅 I should reread them.
