I can find some "taco sauce" and similar in the international aisle at the supermarket, but nothing I actually want to cook with. I might have to go on an "ingredient vacation" and collect some peppers and sauces from other countries.
@iris what kind of salsa?
Here in Sicily, we often make our own with just tomatoes, and flavor it with sautéed chopped onion, basil, salt (although I don't know how expensive these things are there in Germany). Some people also add sugar or something else sweet as an acidic corrector.

Salsa is something that is fun to make and not too challenging to do in bulk with a rack of jars! I also just sort of love working with tomatoes because of the smell, but canned tomatoes also are great and arguably better to start with
