@stefano I regret basing my instance on Mastodon, simply too big for a single user. If there was a decent way to switch software, I would strongly consider it.

This is one of the reasons why #littleFedi exists...

#littleFedi

I like Mastodon, I really do. But it has so, so many dependencies, and updating it on illumos or OpenBSD is getting really difficult, release after release.

Some dependencies are primarily distributed as binaries, or only build on Linux and macOS. It's not Mastodon's fault, but it depends on them.

That’s why, in my opinion, solutions like snac, GoToSocial, or littleFedi have a reason to exist: all of this is much, much easier...

First fedi block for me: nicecrew.digital domain. One look at the public timeline convinced me that reporting wasn’t going to help.

Il treno per Trieste che non parte perché, dice l'annuncio, da qualche parte c'è gente non autorizzata che ne impedisce la partenza, e io immagino un vagone occupato da pinguini.

Report: Francesca Albanese responds to Israeli model Sarai Givaty:

When Givaty was asked about Israel's killing of Palestinian children, she said: “I am sad. But... if we don’t act, this child will grow up to become a terrorist."

Albanese responded: "This was also the argument made by Nazi officials during the Nuremberg trials to justify why they killed children during the Holocaust.”

So, I've been thinking, an I'm going to add a little twist.
The laptop will be able to take different CPUs, so I can swap in a DCJ11/68K/6502/whatever.
This should make it a fun challenge :)

You know one thing I’ll say I’m so glad for is actually the Internet. Because back when I was a kid, before we had it? If you were bored and nothing was on TV, and you read everything of actual interest at the local library (very feasible to do btw; branch libraries then as now were usually small), assuming you could get there… and you’d played every game you already had?

You just. Sat around bored.

I was bored a lot as a kid.

The thing is when I was a kid before Internet, you were limited to what you learned in school, learned on TV, learned from your library… you may not know entire categories of media existed because your library might not carry them and no one you knew could tell you they existed. And interlibrary loan existed, sure… but you had to know what to look for to begin with, and hope they kept the card catalog (which was actually a bunch of typewritten cards in a cabinet) up to date with what was available systemwide.

“Ah yes, this book on magnetism may or may not be what I’m looking for. Librarian, please send for this.”

“It will take two weeks to arrive. Come pick it up then.”

@oblomov Oh no, those will be MUCH brighter.

I didn't bother checking exactly but I think these are SpaceX / Starlink ones.

Bright, but their biggest annoyance is that there's and endless train of the things moving along the static background of the night-sky.

Already there's never a moment where you cannot see them by just casually looking up to the stars.

This graph shows the loops that people get caught in while trying to move to the solution! It's so cool!

@futurebird So, you nerdsniped me good with this one. I did indeed go straight to graph theory, I wanted to know what the state graph for this guy looked like and...it's pretty neat!

Put it together in a lil website that you can play with to investigate all the possible arrangements of blocks, and see that while there are many ways to get the piano to the lower-right, there is basically only one path (with many detours available!) to get it to the lower-left.

I don't think this totally answers "why", but it's fun to look at, anyway!

@oblomov

We have something even better, it's like a phase space diagram of the puzzle. The solution is at the purple node.

It shows how there are many ways to get the 2x2 piece to the lower right ... but the lower left is a bit more tricky.

I hate tragedies in fiction.
If I wanna feel like shit over something that happened, I'll just look at real life.

I kinda know what people get out of it, but I never liked it.
