    This is my favorite photo.

I took it 14 years ago, at a Carnaval celebration in the Mission and published it here once, in black and white. Posted and done. End of story.

    Well not quite.

A couple of weeks ago I went back to my Lightroom catalog, took another look, and decided the photo looked much better in color. So here it is. A moment frozen in time.

I'm going to pin this for a while to remind myself to go out and take more street photos... because that is something that makes me really happy.

    #photography #StreetPhotography

A photograph of a teenaged boy on rollerblades. He is dressed for a street fair, wearing a bright red, black, and white costume with a fan-like cape and matching, tall, plumed hat. He paused briefly for the camera, facing me and spreading his cape, wings to the breeze, before skating off to join the celebration.

It was such a simple color palette, a splashy red and a neutral oatmeal. With a flair, splash of Innocence... it worked.

@BobHorowitz I looooove it, and I haven't seen the one in b&w so I can't compare, but with this striking red it must be better in colour. So cool 😍

You know, wherever he is now, I really hope he is making as big a splash on life as he did that day.

That is just crazy cool! You always seem to capture really good vibes from your subjects. I suspect you always ask them first. They always seem more than willing to oblige.

And yeah, do what makes you happy. We all reap the benefits!

The rule for closeups is ask or gesture... and thank and complement them afterwards. If they have any objections, the photo gets deleted in camera.

@BobHorowitz I totally get why it's a favourite. You should definitely pin this one. The colours and scene are amazing 😍

And yes, you should go out more to the streets. Your true feelings about #NatureyCrap are common knowledge. It is just nature. You belong to the street, my friend. Now go out and wow us again!

PS You almost had me add "check old catalogues" to my to-do list. I did not. My current backlog is big enough to keep me busy 😇

    They’re on ROLLER SKATES!
As if the outfit wasn’t fabulous enough.
A really great photo, thank you for sharing this version. 🛼

@BobHorowitz That is both the most spectacular photo and absolutely the sweetest! When you look at his face and see that innocence, he doesn't look more than 14, you just melt. I can see why you love it 🥰
One thing I have realized, is you can't be a street photographer of people with a cell phone. If you walk up to someone with a big camera that looks professional they think you're a photographer. If you walk up to them with your cell phone they think you're pretty creepy 😂

Interesting observation about the cellphone 👍

You also can't shoot street easily with a long lens... People think you are stalking. A small prime like a 50mm puts you in the comfort zone of honest distance where you are close enough to talk and not too close to violate personal space.

@BobHorowitz Pretty fly for a guy wearing Godzilla slippers! 😁 Seriously, I think the version with these simple, bold colours captures the moment even better: Quelle joie de vivre ! 👏
    Love the boy's gaze!
