credit to Sandy Ernest Allen over on bluesky for unearthing this
Ensign Kellogg on Star Trek: The Next Generation was played by a trans woman, Cameron
she had to hide and be stealth, it’s never mentioned the character is trans but
there’s something truly magic in knowing that the next time i rewatch TNG, i will see her there
and i will know that someone like me
helped make the show that ignited my lifelong love of Star Trek 😭
btw: this is the closest Trek has gotten to having an actual trans woman character in 60 years and 900 hours of stories
it’ll officially happen
maybe i will get to help make it happen, maybe someone else will
but it will
some day, one day
like, listen, it has wounded my heart so deeply to have never ever seen myself truly represented in the fictional world I love the most
but there she is and i
no, fuck— i’m legit tearing up
representation matters
it MATTERS
so much
legit just cried a bunch over how much this means to me
i can’t even put it into words
hurting and isolated and alone little Tilly found so much hope in Star Trek
and all along she was seeing someone just like her and didn’t even know, more hope waiting right under the surface
i’m a wreck
@tillybridges now i am weeping
Oct 2, 2026, 9:31 PM@tillybridges she was in so many episodes! I'm totally crying 😭
@Bikil and two movies! she was right there all along 🩷
@tillybridges @Bikil I got teary when I looked her up and saw her in her undercover look in Montana from First Contact
@tillybridges Jesse James Keitel playing Doctor Aspen/Captain Angel in Strange New Worlds S1E7 "The Serene Squall"?
@tillybridges not sure if i've overlooked something about your post that would make this info superfluous, but for its many faults New Trek has had several certifiably queer & trans characters & actors: 2 gay men, a lesbian, two nonbinary people and a trans woman who played breif role as a villain whose main purpose seemed to be to teach Spock about himself lol.
For all the queerness present in it, i'm not crazy about New Trek in general or the ways it handled queerness in particular. 🤷
@itsmeholland I am well acquainted with new trek, enough to tell you there was not a trans woman on SNW, Captain Angel was nonbinary and played by Jesse James Keitel who identified as nonbinary at the time, though has since come out as a trans woman
Star Trek as yet has no trans women characters played by trans women actresses
Oct 2, 2026, 9:11 PM@tillybridges incredible. I think I actually remember her too..
@tillybridges ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
@tillybridges I came here to share the Memory Alpha pages but I see others beat me to it
@tillybridges I'm stunned! This is awesome! Thanks for sharing!
@tillybridges Today I Learned! Thank you for sharing.
@tillybridges It seems to have been confirmed from her Facebook page which someone found last year that Cameron (Oppenheimer) was also credited as Bobby/Bobbi Cameron in films such as The Holy Mountain (1973) and Elevator Girls in Bondage (1972). They have separate IMDB profiles but it’s long been suspected they’re the same person.
Oct 3, 2026, 12:52 AM@tillybridges Is this the tactical officer we see flirt with Riker when he is leaning against the tactical station?
Wow. They didn’t get credited for being a background actress according to Memory Alpha. They have a long number of appearances according to the character page. Hey… they even appear in my favorite episode “All Good Things…”! 😀
Oct 3, 2026, 1:55 AM@tillybridges No way… They are the Trill in the promo photo for #StarTrekTheExperience too! I just dug up hotel keys with that on it today!
@tillybridges They look so familiar, but I'm having trouble looking up what else they may have done.
@tillybridges I love this so much!
Oct 3, 2026, 3:59 AM@tillybridges @twipped is she out and/or dead? :shiba_confused:
Oct 3, 2026, 4:11 AM@OctaviaConAmore @tillybridges I can't find if she's still alive, but IMDB doesn't list a death date. She was outed in a new biography about her brother, who is also trans.
Oct 3, 2026, 4:14 AM@twipped @tillybridges that... hmm... that feels pretty uncomfy considering "I found out she was trans" is a legal reason for murdering trans women :kitty_yikes:
(thank you for the info~ :hug_love: )
@OctaviaConAmore @twipped @tillybridges
Thanks for asking about this. I wanted to make sure she was outed consensually before I spread this around. It sounds like no, so I'm not going to spread this.
@OctaviaConAmore @twipped @MegaMichelle
okay y’all this was revealed by a trans man journalist making a documentary about her famous trans brother
she was also out publicly under other names, just not under her stage name while working in TV in the 90s, for obvious reasons
there’s nothing unethical going on here just because *I* just found out this information
@tillybridges @OctaviaConAmore @twipped
Aha, ok. Thanks!
@tillybridges
Oh I need to rewatch TNG now, at least the episodes she's in.
